Architectural features

We’ll post pictures and a description of some of the architectural elements we find interesting in this section.

The flat arch window and door openings on the front of the building (like the one above in our website’s title) are characteristic Georgian features. More decorative ornamentation started to appear in the Delaware Valley about 1760, but the keystones and other stone in the flat arches here have been only slightly dressed. That is typical of the period, and especially for a rural farmhouse. No intact windows have survived, but remnants show they were 9/6 double-hung with narrow, shallow muntins. Window treatments are very important, so this element will receive special attention during the restoration.
